Most jewelry stores describe a stone by the name that sells best. We would rather describe it by what it is, including when the honest answer is that we are still checking.
Our rules
- We name every stone by what it actually is.
- If a stone has been dyed, stabilised or resin-treated, we say so — treatment affects both value and durability, so you should know.
- We do not use the word jade unless a piece contains genuine jadeite or nephrite. None of our current pieces do, so the word does not appear on any of them.
- We do not use sterling silver unless a piece is genuinely 92.5% silver. Where a piece is plated, we call it silver-tone or gold-tone.
- Where we have not yet confirmed a material with our supplier, we say that plainly rather than guess. A guess that turns out wrong is worse than an admission.
Where we are right now
We are verifying the stone and metal composition of our pieces with an independent gemological laboratory. Until that work is finished, we describe our pieces by what you can see — color, finish, weight, fit. When the results arrive, this page and every product page will be updated with exactly what they say, including anything unflattering.
Why we put this in front rather than in the footer
Because it is the part of the business we would most want to know about if we were buying. A store that will tell you what it does not yet know is easier to trust on the things it does.
